Economical Techniques to Make the Most of Your Holiday Donations

This year, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières teams have responded to simultaneous crises in more than 75 nations. Doctors Without Borders employs about 67,000 medical professionals, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and surgeons, and this time of year is critical in providing them with the resources they require to deliver lifesaving care in the world’s most difficult places.

Bandaging civilians injured in the Gaza War, treating hungry children in Sudan, and providing basic healthcare to people in Afghanistan’s remote mountain regions are all part of Doctors Without Borders’ everyday work. Support is needed now more than ever, and these teams cannot continue saving lives without the funds raised through strategic year-end donations.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD)

If you are 70 ½ or older, you can contribute up to $105,000 annually from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) towards qualified donated goods (QCD). IRA charity rollovers, or QCDs, allow you to support MSF’s important work without having to itemize your taxes. If you are 73 or older and your QCDs are not taxable, you can get your required minimum distribution (RMD). It may be prudent to maximize your QCD contributions before 2026, given potential changes to retirement plan requirements under the new tax law.

Employer Matched Gifts

I bet you didn’t realize that many businesses will match your philanthropic contributions, allowing you to see your impact magnified by two or even three times without paying a dollar extra. Gifts given by board members, retirees, and spouses will likely be matched. Giving in this way is the quickest and most straightforward approach to make a difference with your money.
