The Absences
John’s absences became more frequent. Amanda often found herself alone in their home, wondering where he was. “Seems you’ve been spending a lot of time at some Starbucks cafe downtown,” she remarked one evening. John shrugged.

“It’s just a place to relax after work.” Amanda nodded, but her unease grew. She began to notice the little things—John coming home late, a certain smell lingering on his clothes, the frequent receipts from Starbucks. Her curiosity turned into a burning need to know the truth.
