Gladys Maria Knight popularly known as the Empress of Soul is an American singer, songwriter, actress, businesswoman, and author. A seven-time Grammy Award winner, Knight is best known for the hits with her group Gladys Knight & the Pip, which also included her brother and cousins. She is also an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and along with The Pips.
Knight also recorded the theme song for the James Bond film Licence to Kill. Rolling Stone magazine ranked her among the 100 Greatest Singers of the Time. Knight married her close friends William McDowell and they have seventeen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren between them.
