Margaret’s Desperate Pleas
Margaret’s voice cut through the awkward silence, insisting there must be some mistake. ‘This can’t be right, Mark,’ she said, eyes wide with disbelief.

She looked around the room, searching for support. ‘Richard, surely there’s some misunderstanding!’ she added, her voice less confident than before.
I watched her, standing there, desperately trying to regain control of the situation. But the truth was right there, leaving little room for denial.
