A Subtle Shift
The following week, Lily’s attitude seemed lighter. While she still kept her distance when I was around, some of the frostiness had disappeared.
This change, however slight, was a welcome sign. It suggested progress, revealing the first openings in the walls she maintained between herself and the rest of us.
