Tagging luggage for the long haul
The printer whirred softly as it produced the ticket that would take me far away. She handed me the boarding pass along with a claim tag for my luggage.
I heaved my heavy suitcase onto the scale, watching the number settle well within the allowance. She attached the destination strip to the handle and sent the bag down the conveyor belt.
I watched it disappear through the rubber flaps, feeling lighter physically and emotionally.
