As they walked, it became clear the place was not abandoned. Doors hung half-open on their hinges, and a few clotheslines held sheets that looked freshly washed and still damp.
“Abandoned? Not a chance,” Jake whispered. He wondered how many people lived here, and why nobody wanted outsiders to know.
