Clinton switched on a flashlight and shone the beam against the shell. The light passed faintly through, revealing blurred shapes inside. No clear outline, but delicate lines branched across the inside surface.

“Veins,” Clinton said quietly. “There’s blood flow. These are fertilised. Something’s growing in there. But what? No idea.”
