Jake’s mother quickly brushed off his questions about the baby picture. “It’s just an old photo, Jake. Don’t read too much into it,”
she said, her tone firm but evasive. Jake could see she was uncomfortable, her eyes avoiding his. His father remained silent, staring at the floor.
