A Note of Caution
Before you run off and throw your mattress in the dumpster, I need to be responsible. This lifestyle isn’t for everyone. If you have limited mobility, severe arthritis, or are recovering from surgery, getting on and off the floor could be dangerous. You should always consult your doctor before making a radical change to your biomechanics. Also, if you live in a very cold climate with drafty floors, you need to ensure you have proper insulation layers.
Furthermore, don’t be a hero. I see people on forums trying to sleep on bare concrete to be “tough.” That’s not healthy; that’s just asking for pressure sores. The goal is firm support, not bruising. Use a mat. Use blankets. Listen to your body. If you feel sharp pain (not just soreness), stop. This is a journey of healing, not a test of pain tolerance.
