Circulation and “Dead Arms”
Another subtle change I noticed was in my circulation. On the old soft mattress, I would often wake up with a “dead arm”—that pins-and-needles sensation where you can’t feel your hand because you slept on it weirdly. The soft foam would envelop my limbs, cutting off blood flow if I laid in the wrong position. On the floor, the firmness prevented my heavy limbs from sinking and pinching nerves.
My body naturally avoided positions that cut off circulation because they were immediately uncomfortable. I wasn’t just sleeping; I was actively sleeping. My subconscious was constantly ensuring my limbs were in optimal positions. I woke up with warm hands and feet, feeling oxygenated. It was a small detail, but it contributed to that feeling of “readiness” in the morning. I wasn’t dragging a numb body out of bed anymore.
