The Expensive Assumption
Like most people, I assumed the answer was obvious: my bed wasn’t good enough.
So I did what ads, reviews, and salespeople all suggest. I went shopping.
The store was filled with buzzwords—“premium,” “engineered,” “luxury.” One mattress stood out above the rest. Thick. Heavy. Impressive. The kind that makes you feel responsible just by buying it.
The salesman smiled and told me it was designed for “modern comfort.” I lay on it for a few minutes. It felt great.
That was enough to convince me.
I handed over my credit card and walked out feeling optimistic. Surely this would make mornings easier.
For a short while, it did.
But a few months later, I realized something uncomfortable: despite all that money, nothing had really changed.
The bed was new. My routine wasn’t.
