The “Detox” Phase
Days 3 and 4 were what the forums called the “Detox Phase.” This is where most people quit. The novelty had worn off, and the reality of sleeping on a hard surface was taking a toll. I was waking up with numbness in my arms because I wasn’t used to the pressure. I was tired during the day, not from insomnia, but from the physical adaptation. My body was literally reshaping itself. I felt like a teenager going through growing pains.
My colleagues noticed I was walking differently. “You look stiff,” one of them said. I didn’t have the energy to explain that I was sleeping on the floor like a monk. I just nodded and downed another coffee. But beneath the stiffness, something remarkable was happening. The chronic inflammation in my lower back was subsiding. The sharp electric shocks I used to get when bending over to tie my shoes were gone. I was trading acute, stabbing pain for a dull, muscular soreness. It was a trade I was willing to make.
