Metallic clang
Suddenly, a metallic clang echoed from what seemed like the inside of the house, ringing out clear as a bell. Leo stopped dead, and Mia’s breath caught.
It sounded exactly like a shutter blowing open, or being slammed shut by someone unseen. The empty windows stared back at them, revealing nothing about what happened behind them.
