The students loved their newfound fame, but more importantly, they loved that their teacher celebrated their weirdness. They saw that their unique perspectives were valued, even when they were bizarre.
It emboldened them art-wise. Subsequent art projects became even more creative and daring. They weren’t afraid to make mistakes or draw things “wrong,” because they knew Mrs. Higgins would probably just laugh and hang it on the wall anyway. The “failed” portrait day had actually been a massive success for their creative confidence.
