It didn’t take long for Daniel to notice that longtime residents reacted differently when he mentioned his address. Conversations would slow slightly, followed by careful words and polite smiles. Neighbors explained that the house had changed hands many times over the years. Some owners stayed briefly, others longer, but none seemed to truly settle in. There was no single dramatic event tied to the property—no fires, no public scandals—just a quiet pattern of departures that people found hard to explain.
Daniel assumed the explanation was simple. Old houses require patience, money, and effort, and not everyone is prepared for that reality.
