Keeping stories private
When asked about her past, Martha would simply smile and say, “Some stories stay private.” She was welcoming with her neighbors but remained reserved about certain chapters of her life.
Rufus was friendly toward Martha but became attentive whenever unfamiliar people came near the house. The neighbors simply saw it as another sign of how closely the dog watched over his new home.
